The French Laundry

Image
Formerly "the best restaurant in the world" and one of the few restaurants with 3 Michelin stars, The French Laundry has been on my bucket list and I was fortunate enough to snag a last-minute reservation and share the dining experience with my good friend Jocelyn.  Chef Thomas Keller's flagship served a memorable meal, with highlights such as: "pommes maxim's," Elysian Fields Lamb, and buckwheat ice cream with whiskey honey. The food seemed more rustic and traditional rather than innovative, so personally it wasn't the best meal of my life since I'm into fusion/gastronomy, but it was still a great experience, especially since we got to tour the kitchen at the end and met Chef Thomas Keller himself!  We drove from Bay Area in the afternoon, and it was unfortunately smoky, but the skies were not apocalyptic at least. I parked directly across the street from the restaurant. There might be parking along the small road beside the restaurant also, but str...

Vegas eats

Image
One of my favorite things to do in Vegas (and in life) is eat. The food scene in Vegas is getting better and better and there are always more places to check out. Some highlights of my MDW trip were Shang Artisan Noodle  and dessert at Bacchanal . Below are some things I ate during my 3 day trip to Sin City-  But first: mid-flight mimosa (I used a complimentary SW drink ticket) Theme of Day 1: Fried Chicken (Chicky Chicky Fry Fry) Brunch: Hash House a go-go | Linq For three people, we shared chicken and waffles, a pecan salad, and a side of scrambled eggs. This is my 4th time having the chicken and waffles here. It was ok, it always feels too heavy and this is one of those places that I think is mostly worth trying once. The waffles have bacon inside, and are a little too dry for my liking, I couldn't even finish one. The chicken was cooked well, juicy, and this time I appreciated the fried green onion which my friend Betty emphasized. Snack: McDonalds (not pi...

All I want for Christmas (2018)

Image
Before this year's wishlist (if you want to see it, scroll down) I'd like to reminisce about what I posted about what I wanted for Christmas in 2017 . Looking back, I'm thinking WTF. While I fondly remember dividing my list to make things simpler, my list was pretty dumb: NON-MATERIAL THINGS Happiness Generally, making time for things I enjoy/not taking life too seriously What? I need to wish for things that are more tangible.  Life Size 2 to actually come out in 2018 and be comparable to the original This one IS coming true, and I have yet to see it but based on teasers , it looks like it will be a trainwreck.  Quality time with friends and family  Little things not on my  #30GoalsBefore30  list, like getting meals or hiking, etc. Being in top 5 of Gumball Rally 2018 w/ Andrew FAILED - we got 13th, but it was actually still a fun day attempting to ride all the rides at Disneyland despite not being in top 5. Professional success/gro...

East Coast Eats

Image
A week ago, I was sauntering the streets of NYC and Washington DC catching up with friends and trying to make the most of my downtime from the law convention I was attending. This post is dedicated to my food adventures during the five days I was in/ on the East Coast (thanks for telling me proper grammar Abby Wolf!) 6.6.18 - NYC  1. Buvette  First stop for brunch: Buvette. This place was mentioned in Crazy Rich Asians, and Kevin Kwan (the author) is apparently a fan of West Village/Greenwich Village area. I came here with my NLC Sac ELP (entrepreneur life partner Rose - missing Liza Chu!) We sat in a somewhat cramped corner on the outdoor patio since the weather was nice. Kevin Kwan has mentioned that he gets the Golden Assam tea, a pain au chocolat, or the eggs with salmon. I planned on getting dessert after this meal, so I only ordered the Assam tea and the eggs with salmon. The Golden Assam tea is apparently from India- and came in this quaint teapot. To me, ...
