East Coast Eats

Image
A week ago, I was sauntering the streets of NYC and Washington DC catching up with friends and trying to make the most of my downtime from the law convention I was attending. This post is dedicated to my food adventures during the five days I was in/ on the East Coast (thanks for telling me proper grammar Abby Wolf!) 6.6.18 - NYC  1. Buvette  First stop for brunch: Buvette. This place was mentioned in Crazy Rich Asians, and Kevin Kwan (the author) is apparently a fan of West Village/Greenwich Village area. I came here with my NLC Sac ELP (entrepreneur life partner Rose - missing Liza Chu!) We sat in a somewhat cramped corner on the outdoor patio since the weather was nice. Kevin Kwan has mentioned that he gets the Golden Assam tea, a pain au chocolat, or the eggs with salmon. I planned on getting dessert after this meal, so I only ordered the Assam tea and the eggs with salmon. The Golden Assam tea is apparently from India- and came in this quaint teapot. To me, ...

Attending Picnic Day as an Alum

Image
Picnic Day (usually around 4/20), is a day to celebrate Davis. It's one of the biggest events of the year in this small college town, and is essentially when college students wander around campus and Downtown Davis drunk or high or both. As a law student on the semester system, picnic day was usually close to finals, but I gave up trying  took picnic day as a study break opportunity to see some sunlight and check out campus with my non-gunner friends. WHEN WE WERE YOUNG (circa 2014) FF to 2018: I didn't really plan on going to picnic day as an alum, but this year Josey flew up to NorCal (mostly for Napa, partly to visit me) and Davis was the perfect meeting spot since she was at a friend's in the East Bay and I'm up in Sac. After surprisingly terrible traffic, I picked up Josey from the Amtrak station, and being too lazy to walk 8+ blocks to campus I decided to drive us to the law school. Josey wanted to get in the law school and see if people were studyin...

What I ate in Hawaii

Image
As a foodie and instagram user, I had a few bookmarks of places to try in Hawaii. Alas, my trip to Honolulu was not a vacation, but I still managed to scrape in a few good eats. Day 1: I ate a spam musubi from the grocery store. Later on, we went to get brunch at Moena Cafe, where I got a pork kalua (basically Hawaiian pulled pork) omelet. With a little room for dessert, we got Bubbies right next door: Ice cream mochi I pretty much ate Costco food for dinner, then went to drink at Lulu's which was ratchet (per my standards). After clubbing, we went to a place that would be open late: Mac2Go, basically a more expensive Hawaiian themed Dennys. Loco Moco Day 2:  Woke up slightly hungover, thought maybe I should be healthy, and then got an acai bowl from Beach Walk Cafe.   Acai bowl When everyone else I was traveling with was ready for food, we got brunch at Embassy Suites where I got an omelet and oatmeal. We went to the pool a bit, and then it wa...
