Caption by Hyatt Osaka - Hotel Review

If you are a Hyatt member/have Chase points and are visiting Kansai (Osaka area or near Kyoto), I recommend the relatively new Caption by Hyatt in Osaka.

Pros:

  • Concierge via email was helpful in booking dinners in advance
  • Location - close to Namba Station, Dotonbori for food, and generally convenient
  • Has everything you need at a very reasonable points redemption
Cons:
  • Pretty crowded, usually shared an elevator with others
  • Not a ton of space for luggage and generally small room (but still comfortable for Japan)
  • Only 2 sets of washer and dryers for over 100 rooms
Booking: 4 nights - 21,500 Hyatt points, 1 night was a Sunday and that night might've been 6,500 instead of the standard 5k.

Arrival from Osaka Airport:

After an evening flight from Narita to ITM (Osaka International), we took a 8:15 pm Limousine Bus (¥650 per person)  and arrived around 9 pm at stop 10 Namba. The bus stop was kind of a random location next to the plaza, and instead of walking we opted to taxi and it was around ¥900-¥1000 and 5-10 min til we found the hotel.

Check-in:

The entrance has a separate room, and then you enter a large lobby with check in on the right, seating area adjoining a bar, and a dining area with a store at the far end. The check-in desk did have some amenities like individual packets of toothpaste and lotion, and the staffer informed us that toothbrushes were in the bathrooms. There was an ipad self-serve check in, but since there was no wait and it was late the staffer helped us.

The room:

I reserved a standard 1 Queen bed [award] room.

We were given room 609 - basically right next to the elevator.

The closet with pajamas and some luggage storage (for maybe one). There was a safe. The teapot/drink area was restocked everyday and had nice quality tea and cool pour-over coffee packets. There is also a note that there is a water refill station on each floor.
The wall also had hangars and this corkboard with a guide to the neighborhood.
The bed was a little firm but generally comfortable. Next to the bed were outlets and usb ports and switches for the lights. The art was cool.

Bathroom:

The bidet was nice and newer [not the nicest, didn't have a drying fan or nature sounds from what I remember].

Pajamas:

Food/drink:

The bar "Talk Shop" has some Japanese options, and several western options for clientele. The sandwiches we had were good. The staff were earnest to make a vanilla latte, but it was a bit too sweet.

Activities: i.e. Sticker Rally

Next to the lobby was a weekly calendar, and each day they have different events. On a Monday night, one activity was a sticker rally!

PRIZE SPOILER:

Amenities- fitness center + laundry

On the second floor there are two sets of laundry machines (washer + Dryer, that were generally always used, but we were able to use it at 5 AM) and a small fitness room.

Nearby:

Immediately next door is a diner, Miyamoto Munashi- they have super affordable Japanese breakfast, katsu dishes and hamburg steak, and are open 24 hours.

Also nearby on the same street was a really good Chinese place- Furaitei.

Kuromon market:

Lawson- this was around the corner and cool because it was Dragon Quest themed:

[not pictured, but a Daiso near this Lawson]

Don Quijote:

Namba Station:

Other random story: I got plushies from the Nintendo Museum and they were large, and the staff were kind enough to let me use their vacuum to shrink wrap them in bags I bought from Daiso.

In Conclusion:

The Caption is great and foreigner friendly, super convenient and I would stay again. Don't expect super luxury, but it's fine because when you're in Osaka you're out to explore and eat anyways!
