Square Enix Cafe - Octopath Traveler Party!

One of the highlights of my trip to Japan and Tokyo earlier this year was going to the Square Enix Cafe for the Octopath Traveler Party!

The theming was great, I liked the merch and experience, and food was decent. I'd recommend checking out Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara if:

  • The cafe has a theme for video game you like
  • You like Square Enix (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, other RPGs) and want to check out the store for general merch

Cons:

  • Groups in multiples of 2s only, or solo dining - no 3s allowed?
  • Initial host seemed rude when I was trying to confirm my appointment and did not speak Japanese
Booking:

Fairly easy on their website about a month or so in advance- plenty of room for 2 at 7 PM and the restaurant felt empty (I did come towards the end of the Octopath theme).

Location:

Close to Akihibara station exit- kinda on the side of a tunnel/shopping area so it took me a few minutes to find.

OCTOPATH theming:

Cait! This one looks most like Meelo

Ordered off an Ipad

Lots of art from Fans!

They gave me some stickers and posters, I think they gave a few extra since they ran out of the exclusive coasters.

Menu:

Food/Drink:

Matcha with a little red bean treat

Ochette hunter meat (the characters are edible crackers?)

Butterfly pea tea

Spread

Olberic meat and potato soup

Chocolate sundae

Bonus - slime dumplings

Merch:

Other Merch:

Concluding thoughts:
Despite the semi-rude host/waiter, the service got a lot better and it was fun to dine in a theme of one of my favorite video games. The meal itself was not crazy expensive - maybe $20 USD a person for food and a drink, and I spent more on merch. Definitely check out the Square Enix cafe if it's a fun theme!
