Porto - Sao Joao Festival, Livraria Lello and a fancy McDonalds

I went to Porto for two days and luckily came during nice weather during Sao Joao festival- I wish I had another day to do a Port Tasting along the Douro River! It is a beautiful city that reminds me of Kiki's Delivery Service. 


Sao Joao Festival 



This was a festival with hundreds to thousands walking around and people bonking each other's heads with plastic hammers. My advice - stay at a hotel with restroom access nearby a viewpoint - and go out around 10 pm for midnight fireworks.

Layers of toasted bread and assorted hot meats such as roast, steak, wet-cured ham, linguiça, or chipolata. This was so heavy.

Generally a tourist trap - BUT I think it could've been worth it if I got a "gold" entrance ticket at opening and had the bookstore to ourselves instead of it being super crowded. The ticket can be reserved online in advance- and the ticket cost can be applied towards any book purchase. 






Overall I thought Porto was prettier than Lisbon, and if you get nice weather I imagine Port tasting would be amazing!

The Hilton Moorea was one of the coolest hotel experiences in my life: staying in an overwater bungalow and sharing the turquoise ocean backyard with fish, sting rays, and sharks was incredible. Like any profession, getting a job in the legal field is all about who you know and your reputation. But networking doesn't have to suck, it can be as easy as grabbing a casual cup of coffee with a fellow colleague. Being a first gen lawyer/law student

Today I was on a King Hall First Generation alumni zoom panel with Alex and John, who were also first-generation college and law students (and now lawyers). It's great that UC Davis is setting up this group to help first-gen students, and I myself got valuable advice from Alex and John and also got the chance to reflect on my own challenges as a first-gen lawyer/law student. I forgot to advise the students to take advantage of the deals at the Davis Grocery Outlet, Bargain Market, but hopefully still was able to share some tips based off my experience working for state government.
