Lion King: 30th Anniversary at the Hollywood Bowl!
I happened to be in LA Memorial Day weekend and got to see: Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary: A Live-to-Film Concert at the Hollywood Bowl. It is supposed to be on Disney Plus soon - and they filmed it with drones.
The highlight was definitely seeing Nathan Lane live, but also hearing Jennifer Hudson, Jeremy Irons, and I guess now I can say I was there for the moment nepo-baby North West went on stage... and it was something.
Buying the tickets:I bought tickets for $25 each (including taxes and fees) around Section L2, as part of Rakuten ticket/concert deal- maybe 2 weeks before the show. There were a lot of seats left for the Saturday night show.
American Express Entrance:
General tip for Hollywood bowl entrance: The American Express line on the left is sometimes shorter than general admission. They scanned my card. Since we got in fairly late, they did run out of cushions, but Amex holders also save $1 by getting a complimentary cushion if you show up early enough!
The Show:
Starting around 8 PM, the show was an orchestra playing to the movie along with live performances and videos from celebs such as Elton John.
Be Prepared with Jeremy Irons
Hakuna Matata live with Nathan Lane was the highlight of the night! Also ft. Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa),
Billy Eichner making an intro of Jennifer Hudson for a live performance of "Can you feel the love tonight."There were some Broadway songs from the musical and video snippets of Behind the Scenes of the movie and musical, as well as a sneak peek of the live action Mufasa.
Fireworks finale:
Concluding thoughts: For $25 it was definitely cool to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary, see live performances, and the fireworks show! I was super tired as I flew into LA that day though, and should've expected the show to go til 11 PM. If D+ shows crowd shots I was there!!
