30 Goals before 30

Inspired by my 1L bestie's blog, Best, Isabella, I'm making a list of goals, but making over 100 goals was overwhelming, so I'm doing 30 goals before I turn 30. #30GoalsBefore30

Start date: NOW
End date: 7/30/2020

Personal:
1) Read 1 book a month - first up, finishing Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari - 7/7
2) Vote in the 2018 Elections, especially for California's Governor - 2/2
3) Organize all of my digital photography and upload to Google Photos
4) Study trivia to apply for Jeopardy
5) Apply for a fellowship/program (in Cambridge? also open the GRE books I bought for $20)

Professional:
6) Set up informational interviews with an attorney/professional once a month
7) Apply for a new job with the state when my appointment ends 1/2019 (did this earlier, oops)
8) Become a Board Member of a legal organization
9) Attend a NAPABA National Conference (Chicago in 2018 or Austin in 2019)
10) Make 40 under 40/rising lawyer list
11) Guest lecture in a law school class
12) Do 50 hours of pro bono work for the CA Bar's Wiley Manuel certificate
13) Stay involved in Schwartz/Levi Inn of Court
14) Finish New Leaders Council (NLC) Institute training in 2018

Health:
15) Drink 8 cups of water a day for at least 1 week each month
16) Do an allergy test
17) Lower body fat to 15% (eat less sugar, more fresh fruits & veggies)
18) 30 hot yoga classes a year (20/90)

Family & Friends:
19) Fund a trip for my immediate family
20) Treat parents out to a nice dinner
21) Take a trip with law school or college friends

Finance:
22) Actually invest money (Disney stock?)

Travel:
23) Set foot in a new continent (South America? Australia?)
24) Crazy Rich Asians themed 30th B-Day bash in Singapore w/ Josey + Addy +  Ee Von+ Abby more?!?
25) Dine at a Michelin starred restaurant
26) Drive down Highway 1
27) Go to a Disney Park I haven't been to (DisneySea or Paris)

Fun:
28) Get Gold Status on Yelp - 2 more years of Elite and hoping to write 100 reviews/year
29) Go to a movie premiere (Crazy Rich Asians in August 2018?!?- missed out because of my eurotrip sigh)
30) Bake something I've seen on Great British Bake Off or Food Network

Phew that was exhausting but it feels so rewarding to have some concrete goals to work towards. Let me know if you've got any advice or can help me complete any of these!

The Hilton Moorea was one of the coolest hotel experiences in my life: staying in an overwater bungalow and sharing the turquoise ocean backyard with fish, sting rays, and sharks was incredible. Like any profession, getting a job in the legal field is all about who you know and your reputation. But networking doesn't have to suck, it can be as easy as grabbing a casual cup of coffee with a fellow colleague. You never know where a simple meeting may lead you- possibly to your next job or inspiration for where to go next! One of my 30 goals before 30 was to: Set up informational interviews with an attorney/professional once a month. I actually started doing this a few months before starting my blog, and I've gotten a variety of advice and perspectives on how people have practiced law. Being a first gen lawyer/law student

Today I was on a King Hall First Generation alumni zoom panel with Alex and John, who were also first-generation college and law students (and now lawyers). It's great that UC Davis is setting up this group to help first-gen students, and I myself got valuable advice from Alex and John and also got the chance to reflect on my own challenges as a first-gen lawyer/law student. I forgot to advise the students to take advantage of the deals at the Davis Grocery Outlet, Bargain Market, but hopefully still was able to share some tips based off my experience working for state government. Below were some of my reflections: What do you wish you knew in law school that would have prepared you better for your work and in general as an attorney?
